Pearl Embellished Jeans DIY: The Perfect Project For Spring

The Merriam-Webster Dictionary tells us that em·bel·lish means to decorate (something) by adding special details and features : to make (something) more appealing or attractive. Yup, we totally dig that. That is exactly what we have been up to with this series of denim DIYs we have recently been posting. Last week we posted about vintage brooches on your denim. Just before that, we posted about adding fringe to your denim hem.

This next DIY is adding faux pearls to vintage jeans. We first saw this style on Farfetch, the online/offline community that offers an inspirational (i.e. just a tad too expensive for me but still so awesome) retail shopping experience. The designer that made pearl embellished jeans last fall is called Tu-Es Mon Tresor. Honestly WTF also did  a great  DIY version.

Here is the FF version of the playful, pearly jeans.

What You Need For This Embellished Jeans DIY

We used a vintage pair of high-waisted jeans and a broken necklace we thrifted (but not vintage).

To make your own, here is what you will need:

  • a pair of jeans
  • fabric marker
  • scissors
  • measuring tape
  • needle
  • thread
  • beads
  • round nose pliers (we needed this because of the style of necklace we had…you may not need it for yours)

 DIY Instructions

Start by taking apart your necklace. Our necklace also had stars, so we used them too.

Lay your jeans out flat. And start marking where you would like to place your beads. We measured just a little bit to keep some equal spacing, but your really don’t need to. We also did not put any beads in the back since that would likely end up being a really uncomfortable fashion moment.

We differentiated our dots so that we knew where the stars would go vs the pearls.

Layout the beads and make sure you like the way it looks.

Start stitching your beads in place. As you can see, our bead has a headpin so we did not have to worry about having a needle that was long enough to fit through the center of the pearl. However, the size of the needle did matter for the star beads. Make sure you have the right needle for your type of bead.

Embellished Jeans DIY Result

I mean the jeans are super, but Maria helps take them up quite a few notches. We styled the jeans with a FF vintage silk blouse and shoes and an oversize scarf from a new local designer called HUTCHISON. All can be found at FF.

 More Embellishing

Like the dictionary says, embellishing  makes something more appealing or attractive. Ok, fine, maybe not always–but it is worth a shot! We may try this one next.
